On a colony world, every man’s thoughts are audible all the time. The Noise is constant, overlapping and impossible to switch off, and the typography does real work rendering it on the page.
Todd is a month from becoming a man in a town with no women, which he has never thought to question until he walks into a patch of silence.
It is relentless. The book is essentially one long chase and it does not let up, including in the places where you want it to. There is a death early on that it refuses to soften.
Marketed as young adult, considerably harder than that suggests.
