Military science fiction built on the idea that the rebellion won, became the government, and turned out to be exactly as bad as the thing it replaced. The soldiers on the ground are stuck enforcing that.
It wears its influences openly and the combat writing is the reason to read it. Squad-level, procedural, more interested in equipment and orders than in anybody’s destiny.
