An alien arrives wearing the body of a Cambridge mathematician, sent to suppress a proof that would advance humanity too fast, and files increasingly confused reports about what people are actually like.
The outsider device is old and the execution is warmer than most. It uses the confusion to notice ordinary things properly, including peanut butter, dogs and the fact that nobody explains to a newcomer why any of it is done.
Sentimental in the last third and I did not mind.
