An economist applying supply, demand and search costs to dating, marriage and sex, out of a course she taught at Dalhousie.
The approach is deliberately cold and that is what makes it useful. Treating a marriage market as a market surfaces things the romantic framing hides, including how much of partner choice tracks local sex ratios and relative earnings rather than anything anyone would admit to.
It pushes the model further than the evidence supports in places. The habit of asking what the incentives actually are is the part worth taking.
