Schoolboys on an island, an attempt at rules, and the speed with which the rules stop mattering. Piggy’s glasses are the whole thesis in one object: the thing that makes fire possible, owned by the one person nobody will listen to.
The ending is the part that has aged best. A naval officer arrives, is disappointed in them, and is standing on a warship.
