A dead billionaire hides a fortune inside a virtual world and the clues are all eighties trivia, so the whole planet becomes expert in it.
The reference density is the appeal and the problem. A lot of the book is naming things rather than doing anything with them, and the quest structure keeps resolving through recall rather than ingenuity.
What works better is the frame around it. The stacks, the indenture contracts, the fact that everyone is escaping into the game because the physical world has been given up on.
