Book two has to prove the premise was not a one-off joke, and it does.
The first book could coast on the absurdity of a man in a bathrobe fighting through an alien game show. This one has to make the dungeon itself interesting, and manages it by letting consequences stick. Choices from book one follow Carl down. The mechanics he unlocked keep mattering instead of being reset for convenience.
Donut gets funnier and considerably more dangerous.
Read in August 2025, straight after the first one, which is how I went through the whole run.
