This is the one people point to, and they are right.
Five books in, a series should be settling into formula. Instead this is the strongest case the series makes for being more than a very funny premise. The central set piece is a hunt, the stakes land, and the alien broadcast layer that has been running underneath every book finally pays off properly.
If someone bounced off book one, this is the book I would point at to argue it gets considerably better.
