A flu escapes a military facility and kills most of the world in a few weeks, and the survivors sort themselves into two settlements.
Read April 2021, which was a questionable choice of timing on my part and made the first third hard to read as fiction.
The collapse section is the best thing he has written. The second half, once it becomes a straight contest between good and evil, is weaker, and the ending resolves by intervention rather than by anything the characters do.
Still worth the length for the first part.
