Vampires turn up in a small Maine town and the town turns out to be ready for them, because it was already full of people not asking questions about their neighbours.
The best sections have nothing to do with the vampires. They are the chapters that drift through the town after dark cataloguing ordinary private rot, which is the thing the supernatural plot is really about.
