Thirty year jump, and the series effectively starts over.
The first six books are one story. This begins the second one, with the crew now old, the ring network holding more than a thousand systems, and a new power arriving that treats everything built in the previous volumes as obsolete. The theme is stated openly: the old and broken against the young and fresh.
Stopping here after nine months was accidental, but it is a reasonable place to pause. The book reads like a first book again.
